He finds out that also their gang, the Grove Street Families, lost their patch to the Ballas, their enemy. He decides to stay in Los Santos until the gang problem is fixed.
CJ spends his time avoiding the corrupt cops and working to get Grove Street back on top. With the help of Big Smoke, Ryder, and Sweet, he starts to take back the streets. After sometime, CJ wins control of most of the sectors that Ballas had taken over.
Later, he learns with some help from Cesar that the shooting that killed his mom was meant for his brother Sweet and his gang, only.
He gets a big shock when he discovers that his childhood friends Ryder and Smoke were behind it all. They betrayed him, and CJ decides to get revenge by killing them.
