Alienware Area 51m: The subsidiary of Dell
Alienware Area-51m has still a bad rap, despite making some of the best gaming laptops in recent years. The subsidiary of Dell created a thick yet strong and upgradable “muscle-book” computer. That is the Area-51 m, in order to reconcile its former audience. You can use the Alienware Area-51 m almost to the extent of the desktop PC from the CPU to its graphics counterpart. Sure, kind of. Dell does not sell replacement GPU until now and it is never clear when it uses a standard S-series Coffee Lake R CPU.
Things That Makes it difficult to Recommend the Alienware Area 51m
This makes it difficult to recommend the Alienware Area-51m in its current state, especially given its inflated price. Whereas the model I was sent to analyze now costs $4,499.99 while being on sale directly for $3,959.99 from the Dell store. Yeah. It’s also powered by the Intel Core i9-9900 K desktop version, Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080, RAM 32 GB, SSD storage 1 TB and a rotating hard drive capacity terabyte in the family. However, an 8 GB hybrid, solid-state drive for, many reasons.
The original Alienware Area 51m, known for What?
Truly upgradable game-based laptops are not a new concept. The original Alienware Area 51m, known also for its swappable GPU nearly twenty years ago. The new model is less voluminous, measuring 1.7 inches in closed-shell at its thickest point. It’s still slimmer, 1.09 inches thin at the front end. This isn’t too shabby for a performance-oriented beast.
The similarly upgradable EON17-X origin has a 1.6-inch profile in comparison. All G-Sync screens hold 17.3-inch. The EON17-X is however available in 4 K while the buyers well into the area-51 m are limited to FHD or 1080p. Given the $800 graphics card equivalent mobile, I would expect the latter screen to display at least a 1,440 pp or QHD.
Again, a third power brick could be required. Yes, you have to insert two different charging adapters into its outstretched back. If you want to stop exhausting the 90-hour battery of the Alienware Area 51m in regular use. Based on your exact setup, their wattage varies. Whereas the ship with a pair of 180-watt blocks had some lower-end settings, mine was redundant.
One 180-watt charger, accompanied by a larger 330-watt component, stashed inside the case. If you want portability in relation to results, may I suggest the Alienware m15?
The Alienware Area 51m: a Desktop Substitute
It’s a desktop substitute, in the most literal sense. The Alienware Area 51m stays at my desk, instead of lugging it around. It is built for the stationary player, who wants the all-in – a-one option to the best gaming PC, weighing 8.5 pounds without price. The Area-51 m is also a very-cost computer–you don’t have to buy a mouse, monitor, or keyboard. And it’s almost perfect eye candy for spectators.
“Legend” vocabulary of Dell
Contrary to the Alienware m15, the Alienware Area 51m used the latest “Legend” vocabulary of Dell. At the end of last year to create a fresh and sophisticated esthetic to an old brand. That is to say, the Alienware Area 51m brings sci-fi elements from Alienware to new extremes. For example, its deck and keyboard are clean, soft-touched with both Lunar Light (White) and Dark Moon Side (Black) flavors.
Perhaps, only some things from the Alienware Area-51 chassis have a magnesium alloy. In order to minimize costs and maximize profits, and that we find stingy in laptop space. Today, a Razer Blade 15 Advanced Model may come with any gaming laptop over 2,000 dollars in anodized aluminum. At the entry-level, a zone of $1,949.99 for an i7-9700 and RTX 2060 are available in the area of the Alienware Area-5,000. I had been looking for much higher build quality across the continuum.
Alienware Area 51m: Bezels
The small black bezels of the Alienware Area 51 m are pictured around the screen. And are a significant improvement on the Alienware m15. That is why the thickness of the bezel on the side and its top and bottom adjacents do not differ greatly. Here, Alienware proves that the thin bezel of the future is a tangible reality.
How is Shania Twain’s music moving, as for the computer itself? Ah, well, it doesn’t really bother me. For those of us who want to settle over a frame rate, 1080p at 144Hz may be perfect for ambient competitive multiplayer. But I would like to have a QHD screen option at least. Perfectly, I’d want a 4 K inside of a blistering RTX 2080. I want the best in everything if I buy a gaming platform, the price of a used car. $4,500 is well above 1080p in 2019.
With its keyboard, Alienware Area 51m excels. Key travel 2.2 mm feels like a laptop dream. I rarely make a mistake on the TactX keyboard, whether I’m taping for hours in short explosions or blowing shit in rage 2. This is supported by N-key rotation and anti-ghosting technologies. Better still, five macro buttons are located on the left side of the keyboard. That you can allocate to any keystroke, abstract, block or keystroke combination. To the right, you’re going to find a Numpad utilitarian. Be ready to say goodbye to this tenkeyless life and riddance forever.
The touchpad is less smooth. Sure, it lights up and everyone seems to like the right and left clickers, but it is too tiny for a 17-inch’ screen to be navigated without swiping the finger endlessly to the point of being annoyed. To guide your cursor, the best game mouse or Razer laptop for play will suit you much better.
Alienware Area 51m is full of ports. You have your regular USB 3.0-A pair on the right side and a third USB-A 3.0 on the left side. That is connected by a single Thunderbolt 3 path. And headphone jack and a separate micro input. The HDMI, DisplayPort and RJ-45 Killer E3000 (2.5Gbps) Ethernet is housed in the back sandwich between the air pods.
Alienware Graphics Amplifier Port
The next door is an Alienware Graphics Amplifier port if you want an external GPU enclosure to connect an innovative Gaming Laptop? Strangely stretch, but all right. In addition to this rather confounding option in architecture, the absence of USB 3.1 or 3.2 Gen 2 is my only port-related concern. How are we on a multi-thousand-dollar laptop with obsolete USB 3.0 speeds yet again? Then I have yet another controversial cost-cutting plan or Dell’s monitoring. I don’t love it anyway.
Performance: Should I buy the Alienware Area-51m?
Above all, I was particularly surprised by the output of the Alienware Area-51 m. Confidently, in my entire suite of synthetic benchmarking studies, I thought it would rock every other laptop. In reality, its results indicate about 15% of the $2,499 Acer Predator Triton 500 in ray tracking games. The good news in games you don’t have is that you can rely on far more.
Since the Alienware Area 51m works better than the Triton 2.2GHz (4.1GHz Turbo) H-Stream Processor. When streaming to Twitch or performing a batch of CPU-intensive tasks simultaneously since its8-core, 16-thread Intel Core i9-9900 K desktop CPU (5Ghz for Turbo Boost starters) is clocked at3.6GHz. But for gaming alone, the insane price tag is not the factor in frame rates.
The $2,000 cheaper Triton 500 achieved an average of 56 fps in the Metro Exodus RTX benchmark. Whereas, the Alienware Area-51 m was evaluated for 65fps and the iBuyPower RDY SLIIBG213, one of the 2019 Best Gaming PCs, was powered by the Core i5-and RTX 2060. In addition to ray tracking, the Alienware Area-51 m also outstrips any gaming platform that I have got my hands on personally.
Is It Really a Laptop?
The Area-51 m is still strong, it gets too hot and loud not particularly important as it is too turbulent to suit your lap – and its life-cycle battery sucks. For a battery of 90-watt hours that requires two power comically large blocks, 2 hours and 52 minutes of videos downstream are nothing.
If you ask a laptop for $4,500, $3,959.99 won’t be much better. At least at this stage, it’s too much, whatever price the Alienware Area-51 m you pay. The Area-51 M One Value Proposal will be undermined. Until we get a better idea of when replacement GPUs are expected to ship, by the fact that we do not know when it can be purchased. Four months ago, the area-51 m came out. There has been sufficient time now to buy the RTX 2060 and save it for an RTX 2080. Though, four months later, for current owners of Area 51 m, this is still a pipe dream.
In the meantime, you can take the CPU and pop in a new one after approximately one hour of tinkering. Or you can save money and time and simply build a desktop.
