Acer Aspire 5 i3 Core (2019) Review

The Acer Aspire 5 i3 has powerful core i3, bright, 1080 display and long life–all at a reasonable cost.

Just because you can’t hop on a luxury laptop that costs thousands of dollars doesn’t mean you’re going to have to settle for less. Let me introduce the Acer Aspire 5: a budget laptop with powerful Intel Core i3 capabilities, a bright 15.6-capabilities display, and a long battery life–all at a reasonable price of 399 dollars. The Aspire 5 has its flaws, including a poor graphics card and a somewhat dubious construction quality. Nevertheless, Acer Aspire 5 i3 is among the most costly laptops in its price range if you want to buy a laptop at a low cost.

Price

I checked the Acer Aspire 5 i3 starting model which starts at $399 and has an i3-8145U processor, 4 GB of RAM and a 128 GB of SSD. The mid-level version costs $529 and can fit you to a Core i5-8265U, 8 GB RAM, or 256 GB.

Design

A luxurious look with an aluminum silver cap is sponsored by Acer Aspire 5 i3. Even the Acer logo printed in the middle has a luxury flair — instead of being a shiny plastic piece embedded in the case, the emblem is metallic and comes out of the top. On each end, the top of the deck features 2-line accents that are a little weird. ⠀

A representative told me “The design is intended to take into consideration the different materials that are being used on different parts of the system.”

There’s a clean Aspire logo on the line. To top it off, the bezels on the monitor are remarkably small to a cheap laptop.

Ports

There are several ports in Acer Aspire 5 i3.

The power jack, the RJ45 Ethernet port for a check-dropping, the HDMI port, 2 USB 3.1 ports (one for the Poweroff load) and the USB Type-C port are all on their left-hand side.

Display

The 15,6 “screen of Acer Aspire 5 i3 is noticeably bright, and laptops have a complete 1080p resolution, unlike many budgets.

Aspire 5 represented 65% of the SLR color gamut below the budget laptop average (78 percent), according to our colorimeter, but the panel was 62 percent below the budget laptop average reached by both the Aspire E 15 and the HP 14 Laptop.

The Aspire 5 screen at 276 nits killed him with a lightning impact that conquered the average group (213 nits) and the Aspire E 15 (227 nits) and HP 14 Laptop (199 nits).

Keyboard and Touchpad

In a taping check on Aspire 5 that has fairly clicky keys, I was comforted to plug. The computer even has a number pad and a white backlight, which is a good value for money.

On the 10FastFingers.com style check, my current average, I managed to write 70 words per minute. At 1.2 millimeters, the keys are slightly shallow, which is outside our preferred range from 1.5 to 2.0 mm, but need a meaty 78 gram of strength to act.

The 4.2 x 3 “touchpad is a nice and decently soft structure, but the buttons are somewhat shallow. It has Windows 10 precision drivers, so gestures, like scrolling two fingers and tabbing three fingers, worked as planned.

Audio

The bottom speakers of the Acer Aspire 5 i3 are mediocre, but at the price, they could be worse. I’ve been listening to Lund’s “Small,” which hasn’t held that much weight in my little house. The acoustic guitar which opened the song, however, was melodic and the vocals were clear and clear. But it sounded a bit hollow, particularly the bass. And the sound turned muddy when more than 2 instruments played at once.

You can (specifically) personalize the audio using the Realtek Audio Console incorporated. The software includes three settings, Music, Film, and Game, and you will find Acer’s True Harmony tuning. Music was the best sound I heard, and with TrueHarmony allowed the sound improves the audio a lot, but you’re not going to get premium audio.

Performance

Aspire 5 packs an Intel Core i3-8145U CPU, for less than $400, as well as 4 GB of RAM which has hurdled 30 Google Chrome tabs and 4 1080p YouTube videos with a small slowdown as Spotify ran back.

Aspire 5 had an average laptop score of 8,030, and the Aspire E 15 (7,871) and HP 14 LapTop (6,901) were higher than their budget rating of 5,04 and their Core i3-8130U.

The Aspire 5 took 32 minutes and 53 seconds in our hand brake test to transcode a 4 K video to 1080p. That’s slow down to 23:05, slightly behind the E 15 Aspire (31:40) and just below the average level.

ACERS 128 GB SSD copied 4.97 GB of data in about 20.5 seconds, which is more than the average budget laptop (75 MBps) and translated into 248 Megabytes per second. Even with the HP 14 laptop having a 128 GB SSD it was the only 85MBp. The Aspire E 15 was weighed by a much lower 1 TB HDD (34 MBps).

Graphics

Acer Aspire 5 i3 scored 59,873 on the Unlimited 3DMark Ice Storm Graphics Benchmark with an Intel UHD 620 GPU which was higher than the laptop’s budget average 37,818 and the laptop’s 39,950 Intel UHD 620 HP 14 laptop ratings. The Aspire E 15, however, surpassed the Aspire 5 by 63,817 with the same GPU.

Battery Life

Not only does the Aspire 5 provide strong performance but it also has a long lifetime. After constant Wi-Fi browsing, the battery lasted eight hours and 51 minutes and the typical laptop budget was 7:06. The Aspire E 15 (8:48) and HP 14 Laptop (6:12) have even been surpassed.

Webcam

With the grainy images it takes, the Aspire 5’s 720 p webcam received no awards. But the hue was good and the red and yellow showed quite well in my Spider-Man shirt. Yet the contrast wasn’t pleasant. I couldn’t even remember what was at one of the corners of my house.

Heat

Even under pressure, this system remains incredibly cool. Since playing a 1080p 1080p video for 15 minutes, the bottom hit up to 88 ° Fahrenheit, well below our 95 ° comfort threshold. The keyboard center and the touchpad have reached respectively 86 and 79 degrees.

Software and Warranty

Acer has reduced the apps to your machine a little, but there are still a few to name. Aspire 5 is bundled with Acer User Registration (gives you access to discounts), Settings Explorer (collection of the “latest” Windows apps), Acer Care Center (recovery management and utilities), Amazon, Hulu, Booking.com Partner App and Evernote.

In the meantime, Bubble Witch 3 Saga, Candy Crush Friends Saga, Nitrado are included in the Windows 10 bloatware.

A one-year limited warranty is available on Aspire 5.

Conclusion

The Acer Aspire 5 is your laptop for a budget. This monitor has outstanding price performance, is better than most low-cost computers and lasts longer than your typical workday. The intermediate graphics and the fact that the deck can be somewhat off-center are the only real problem.

Go for the Acer Aspire E 15 ($361), if you want to save a little more money. It’s more compact, but it has more ports and the same specification but with improved graphics and better-built construction at a less expensive price. But, you’re cheating on an SSD.

The Aspire 5 is an impressive budget laptop in general.
